Niko Durnan scored two goals and brother Angelo added one as Washington Township defeated Shawnee 5-1 in a battle of the top 2 teams in JVA. Mike Tussey stopped 22 shots in net and played a strong game for the undefeated Minutemen. Shawnee had a golden opportunity four minutes into the game as they had a two man advantage for a full two minutes. Unfortunately twenty seconds in Shawnee committed a penalty, but still had a power play, but could not get one past Tussey. Township would capitalize on their man advantage as Caden Morrell and Aaron McGarvey broke in 2-on-1 and McGarvey fed a perfect pass to Morrell and he tapped in the pass for a 1-0 lead. Just about six minutes later Christian Ansuini found Niko Durnan down low and he redirected the pass and a 2-0 lead.
Despite being out-shot 8-5, Township led 2-0 after one. With four minutes left in the second period, Angelo Durnan deflected a shot by Santino Cristella into the net and a 3-0 lead. Just over one minute later, Niko made a nice move around the defense and his quick shot found the net and a 4-0 lead after two periods. Early in the third period Zachary Rink would get his first goal of the season to give the Minutemen a 5-0 lead. All that was left was to see if Tussey would get his third shutout of the season. After stoning Nick Fonseca earlier in the period, Fonseca would get the lone Shawnee goal at the nine minute mark to complete the scoring.
